THOUGHTS: IT ONLY TAKES 1% TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Half the world nearly three billion people live on less than two dollars a day. The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the worlds countries) is less than the wealth of the worlds three richest people combined. Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didnt happen. 1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5. HIV/AIDS has created more than 14 million orphans 92 percent of them live in Africa These are just five out of 100s of facts that invloves poverty.10.6 million died in 2003 before the age of 5!!,is that acceptable by any standerds? Is it true that you place of birth determines your right to live?every 3 seconds a child is dead12.3that was one.1.2.3.that was twoetc. More than 30 million children in the world are not immunized against treatable or preventable diseases. Diseases that in many countries can find medicine for in a supermarketmedicine those manufacturers are willing to give us free samples to boost their productivity. When was the last time you heard of someone dying because of the flu, coughing, ear infection, or feveretc. We are talking about people with no access to drinkable waterclean water. Water that you and I can run to any store and find 30 different kinds of bottles each claiming to be the purest and cleanest. In many countries like the USA where I reside, tab water is a clean drinkable source of water. 60% and more of the Americans are over weight, 60 millions are obese. In Africa these two terms are barely used. In Niger alone right now, 3.6 million people are in critical need of food, including 800,000 children under the age of five who are at risk of starvation. Every year an estimated 166,000 children in Niger die from preventable diseases and almost 70 percent of the country's 12 million people do not have access to health services. Millions are being spend on military, cosmetics, cigarettes, alcohol , ice cream(11 billions$) and way much morewhat if 1% ,just 1% of each was shifted to issues that can save people and their children. Poverty can be conquered and defected in less than 30 years if the world leaders and even us as individuals opened our eyes and hearts to that side of the world. It is reachable; we are not talking about a 1000 year plan. This can be achieved now. Put on the side for a minute what politics can do for this, you as an individual how much do you spend on a meal dinning out form time to time? How much to spend on a regular lunch at your place? $16 from you once a year can send a kid to a year of education in school. $16 includes his books, uniform, tuitions .Can you spare $16 a year? Lets talk with the rich upper class section of the people now, those who can afford a $100 or more a year, wow can you imagine building a school room with such money. How many children will your $100 help?! I bet you spend $50 on your pet, I know my friend spend $40 on his TV cable...with $30 you can sponsor a kid, feed him, getting him into school and provide him with bed and blanketJis that too much? It is in us and our actions and decision that those kids who committed no crime expect being born somewhere away from here will survive. Do what you wish others will do if you were in there shoes. The need that head start you and me take for granted.
