SPIRITUAL: PUTTING YOURSELF IN ANOTHER'S SHOES

When I pass the homeless in the street asking for money...i usually give it. The ability to put yourself in another's shoes and in doing so, lose your identification with small self, with all the sense of entitlement and self-absorption that leaves us all so isolated and lonely, is a relief. In the lack of identification with self, you become more sensitive to, and compassionate with, what is happening with other people, whether they are your lover or a perfect stranger. Compassion is the highest form of love because you are not getting the high associated with romantic love or support that comes with love of friends and family. There is no quid pro quo. You are able to show up and be loving.
